The Tashunka Witko Brigade (TWB) focuses on indigenous liberation and gives voice to the indigenous people, the elders, grandmas and warriors on the ground in this our continent. We also acknowledge indigenous people of Peru and the indigenous Nations of the Mexican Northwest Region of the National Indigenous Congress who made pronouncements in solidarity to this cause.

This pronouncement stands in support of the spirit of this Summit and TWB recognizes as it goes forward, the Treaty of the Indigenous Group emanating from it as a working instrument, not a final solution to the eradication of all supports, systems and infrastructure of colonial invasion and occupation that interferes with the Indigenous Nations, Bands, Communities and Families from pursuing their unquestioned ability to seek knowledge, cleansing and guidance through the use of their lands, sites and ceremonial grounds including burial sites.

TWB also includes the unquestionable right to defend, by force of arms and other security measures, these sites and our People from any violation against them, physically by occupation and other alien forces, groups and entities.

TWB encourages and recommends that we, all Indigenous People and Nations, reject unilaterally all further documents, agreements and treaties, and executive orders that violate the sanctity of Indigenous Peoples’ understanding and all that is intended to be a deceiving instrument aimed to get at the Indigenous Peoples’ resources and human standards of life according to the Indigenous Peoples’ viewpoint.

TWB further stipulates that no alien appointment of Indigenous entities be recognized as the representative of Indigenous interests outside and without the approval of that said Indigenous Nation’s traditional means of decision-making. This includes, any and all Tribal Councils, Bureau of Indian Affairs agencies and agents, and, informers and other such employees, whose job it is to undermine and work to maintain colonial rule and occupation, and exploit the Indigenous People as laborers or exploit their resources.

TWB stands for unification between all Indigenous entities and Nations protected by our collective alliances, based upon Indigenous knowledge and decisions taken from the ancient instructions.

TWB as an Indigenous organization has the inherent right to stand alone as a group in support of our Indigenous sovereignty within traditional acknowledgment and privilege. It does not need recognition from any Indigenous group other than as appropriate courtesy extended to any ally in the manner of Indigenous hospitality and respect.

TWB recognizes also that the style and manner of declaration and acts of rescinding colonial documents using colonial/western methods is only as good as it is accepted by the western occupying entities and that Indigenous Summits must adopt styles and methods that are uniquely and inherently sovereign instruments of the Indigenous Collective.

Tashunka Witko Brigade
The Tashunka Witko Brigade (TWB) focuses on indigenous liberation and gives voice to the indigenous people, the elders, grandmas and warriors on the ground in this our continent. The short audio (at http://radio.indymedia.org/news/2006/08/10749.php) is a greeting of solidarity for the Lakota people in the ancient Chanka language, by Don Jose Baca Raime, an elder of the great Chanka Nation in Peru.

To the Lakota People:

In a context in which different cultural organizations try to live together, there is a countering, constant and dominant threat expanding throughout the world: the capital organized in corporations and other organisms denies traditional forms of life and damages the structures of the societies that do not share its values and priorities.

We lament the events the historical Lakota people are undergoing, the cultural damage to our social structures affects all the components of our society and our life, the relationship amongst our people and with our environment. In this sense our affection to those pillars that constitute our tradition, our way of organizing ourselves, including our surroundings and our cultural heritage have been mutilated by the “culture of depredation”.

From here, the indigenous peoples of Peru also face hard struggles to regain our rights and also the constant aggression silenced by a structure that is articulated internationally by those in political power, but here we are. At the Universities, the students organize ourselves to learn to defend the just causes, and as professionals to find and develop more appropriate ways for a different life.

Please receive from the National Major University of San Marcos, and particularly from “Renacere” (I will revive) Debate and Discussion Workshop this letter of solidarity for the just causes that your organization defends.

We ask your members to remain strong and go after what you believe, that for being just deserves being sought. The last thing we can do is resign ourselves to reach our objectives. Judging from your history, it is not the first time you do this, and if your ancestors managed to get treaties it was because they fought for them and in much more adverse conditions, without organizations or media to support them. We hope the sort of harmful actions you are facing stop coming your way and that you succeed in the valuable goals you seek for the wellbeing of your people.

Respectfully:

Yuri Tornero

"Renacere" Debate and Discussion Workshop
Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos
renacere14@hotmail.com
bacamacazana@yahoo.es

We thank the anthropologist and educator (and daughter of Don Jose) Maria Alicia Baca Macazana for facilitating these contacts.

The Tashunka Witko Brigade (TWB) focuses on indigenous liberation and gives voice to the indigenous people, the elders, grandmas and warriors on the ground in this our continent. In it, representatives from the Yaqui, Mayo, Comca’ac, Triqui, ñu Saavi, Zapoteco, Wixáritari, Purhépecha, Nahua and Coca Nations address local and national concerns, promising Mexican society to “defend that which belongs to us by any means within our reach, as we have in the last five hundred years”. The people poured in to protect the station and the mostly women, children and elders that were there in support of the teachers’ strike. Transmission was temporarily interrupted by the attack but they managed to record the events and posted them on indymedia radio. As our small contribution to their struggle, here is a translation (paraphrased to some extent) of that recording, links to the recording itself and articles in Spanish about it.

INTERRUPTED TRANSMISSION:
Loud thuds, people screaming, phone busy signal, silence...voices trying to re-establish transmission. Transmission comes on, lots of background noise. A male voice: “To the people of Oaxaca: 50 heavily armed paramilitaries with machine guns, and pistols tried to take by force Radio Universidad, the people are congregating here to defend the radio. We are asking the people to come join the resistance, the people, university students the teachers. The attack was carried out by goons of –the Oaxacan Governor- Ulises Ruiz Ortiz. A teacher was on the air when the assault happened. Let’s denounce 3 trucks full of paramilitaries we’ll stay here until they are stopped, they have AKs, machine guns, military armament, we are telling you the truth because we know other media might not say the truth about what is happening here. They were repelled by the students, teachers and community. We call on all the media to come here to see what is happening.”
The teacher that was on the air when the radio was attacked: “People of Oaxaca, the government of Ulises Ruiz came through with his threat, a few days ago we had denounced that they had been threatening us. Today they attacked to silence us because we are telling the truth, we are carrying the voice of the people. I was on the air when we were interrupted by their attack. If today they were not able to silence us, the radio of the people by the gun they will not be able to do it. We are asking everybody to concentrate here while still keeping guard on our encampment in the center of the city. If there were teachers, community people, thinking of abandoning the struggle, with this assault Ulises Ruiz has to leave Oaxaca today more than ever. It is him or the people of Oaxaca. We were on the air, we had children and elders who came to accompany us, you don’t know the critical moment we just lived here with these children, women, and elders that were with us. We ask you to gather here to take actions and necessary mobilizations to get rid of Ulises Ruiz.”
A male voice: “We want to reach out to the compañeros nationally, the Coordinadora Nacional de los Trabajadores de la Educacion (the National Teachers’ Organization), in Durango, Puebla, of the sections 9, 10 and 11 of Mexico DF, Jalisco, to tell them that Ulises was not true to his word and once more tried in a stupid way to assault the people of Oaxaca, we repudiate his actions and attitude. We call the Oaxacan people to come and see what the murderous government has tried to implement here (the crowd can be heard chanting). We pass the microphone to the compas that were on the air when the attack happened:
Another male voice: “Three trucks full of paramilitaries, heavily armed, attacked Radio Universidad, our compañera had been on the air for about an hour accompanied by women, children and elders when they were attacked, they were shot at while they were on the air. Where is the Mexican military that allows these paramilitary groups to act with impunity. Jorge Blanco Vargas, Secretary General of Oaxaca, attacks once again with his paramilitary forces. Fox’s government is an accomplice of this assault, once more they tried to massacre us...Transmission interrupted.

Link to the actual transmission (radio.indymedia.org has been difficult to reach lately but try later if you can access the link right away, it is worth the extra effort)
http://radio.indymedia.org/news/2006/07/10657.php

Artículos en español:
http://colectivozape.blogspot.comhttp://mexico.indymedia.org/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=140
The Tashunka Witko Brigade (TWB) focuses on indigenous liberation and gives voice to the indigenous people, the elders, grandmas and warriors on the ground in this our continent. This will last until the beginning of August. Here are Debra White Plume's words on this historical day:

28 June 2006

Greetings Mitakuyepi: (my relations)

Today the Black Hills Sioux Nation Treaty Council, Owe Aku, and the Intertribal Coalition to Defend Bear Butte moves to Mato Paha, our Sacred Mountain. We begin preparations for the July 4 Opening Ceremonies of the Gathering of Nations to
Defend Bear Butte. With sending our voice to the Universe at sunrise, we make our move. We look upon participation in the making of a design of a pivotal moment in our history as Indigenous People and our struggles to protect our ways of life and our Sacred Places. While all of Mother Earth is Sacred, while all of the He Sapa (Black Hills) is Sacred, Bear Butte is the mountain under the most direct threat so we gather there to send our voice to our Creator and our Ancestors and ask them to stand with us, to ask our Sacred Mountain to stand with us, in this effort to protect our destiny as Lakota people and the many other Tribal Nations who hold Bear Butte as Sacred. We go in a humble way, we go as the humble two-legged, to stand with our Relatives of Creation. Why do the developers and their supporters around Bear Butte expect us to willingly give up our destiny? Why do they think they are greater than the destiny of the Lakota Nation? Our identity is interwoven in our Creation Stories with our Sacred Places, this includes our Mato Paha. In many ways, this is our final defense. For if they wipe out our Sacred Places, they wipe out the Lakota Nation. Without our connection and relationship to Mother Earth and our Sacred Places, we cannot be Lakota anymore. We go to a peaceful camp, to gather our relatives from the four directions to make important decisions, together, collectively, about our future and our future generations. We go in a respectful way to our Sacred Mountain to protect Her and to protect our Human Right to pray there, learn there, receive healing there. This pivotal moment in history is a time for Indigenous People and our Allies to come together, to take courage, to stand together to protect our Sacred Places and our destiny. --Debra White Plume

Debra White Plume
Owe Aku, Bring Back the Way
Manderson, SD 57756-0325
605-455-2155 Voice Ph
605-455-1287 Fax Ph
http://by114fd.bay114.hotmail.msn.com/cgi-bin/HoTMaiL?curmbox=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&a=850f07968b9e743dea49f7f4d752850912e0e7ec58ae793ce2a6ab9694fdf6f7
www.bringbacktheway.com

Debra White Plume
Owe Aku, Bring Back the Way
Manderson, SD 57756-0325
605-455-2155 Voice Ph
605-455-1287 Fax Ph
lakota1@gwtc.net
www.bringbacktheway.com
The Tashunka Witko Brigade (TWB) focuses on indigenous liberation and gives voice to the indigenous people, the elders, grandmas and warriors on the ground in this our continent. Deb talks about the encampment and Summit of Nations starting July 4th and the building of a collective organized resistance to protect all indigenous sacred places and the indigenous human right to practice our traditional spirituality.
Audio: Interview in English (49 min 22 sec) translation into Spanish (link at the end of the article, 11 min 48 sec) at http://radio.indymedia.org/news/2006/06/10303.php

Deborah White Plume, co-founder of the Intertribal Coalition to defend Bear Butte, talks to TWB’s Wanbli Watakpe from the banks of the Wounded Knee Creek. She describes the plans for a summer encampment and gathering of Nations starting July 4th, 2006. There is over 30 Nations that have a spiritual relation with Bear Butte, among them, the Lakota, Dakota, Nakota, Northern and Southern Cheyenne Nations, Northern and Southern Arapaho, the Ponca Nation, Osage, and Kiowa. An allied group called the Bear Butte International Alliance has also been formed by tribal people living around the Sturgis area in Meade County, they act as a watchdog organization that keeps track of building permits in Meade County. The Intertribal Coalition has also obtained support from a lot of the IRA tribal governments like the Oglala Sioux Tribe, the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, the Northern Cheyenne tribe, and the Black Hills Sioux Nations Treaty Council (a Treaty Council comprised of all of the Sioux Tribes) which endorses the Intertribal Coalition and gathering of Nations and will host a summit of nations, all of the Sioux tribes, Arapaho and Cheyenne are involved. The South Dakota Peace and Justice, the Christian Peacemakers team, and the organized churches of South Dakota also support the protection of Bear Butte and the summer encampment.

The developments that will desecrate Bear Butte at the moment are two. North of Bear Butte, businessman Jay Allen will develop 600 acres to build what he calls the Sturgis County line campground, which includes 155,000 sq ft asphalt parking lot, and a 20,000 sq ft bar w/ amphitheater that will seat 30,000 +. He paid 500,000 dollars for the liquor license, which was approved by the Meade Co commission without discussion in spite of a large rally against it where many indigenous Nations spoke in opposition. A few miles south of Bear Butte the Glencoe campground is being enlarged to fit 40,000 people. Tribes are appealing but it is a difficult battle because South Dakota has no zoning laws. Recently the Cheyenne Nation purchased about 120 acres of land near Bear Butte and hung their flag, in response the developers hung very large US flags from their equipment, but they haven’t been able to do much work because of the bad weather Mother Earth brings on them.

Deb explains, “We are the Ocete Sakowin, The 7 Council Fires, during the war with the US, with the 7th cavalry we fought them to a stand still and closed the Bozeman trail. This brought the1851 Fort Laramie Treaty and 1868 Fort Laramie Treaty where the boundaries for our territory include 5 states and the Black Hills of South Dakota that have several sacred places. Bear Butte has been sacred for thousands of years to us and other tribes. We use these sacred places to live our way, for medicine, teaching, spiritual healing and praying. They’re our school, our church, our hospital, those places are protected in American society, we want the same respect. This is why we are having this summer encampment to protect the integrity of our sacred places and create an organized resistance to the desecration, going on all over the US: the snowball activity in the San Francisco Peaks in the Southwest, the petroglyph issue around Albuquerque, and many others. We want to form an intertribal collective to protect our sacred places. We are in contact with the Six Nations people defending their land, we are all fighting to defend our land, fighting separate battles that is why we want to bring all Nations together to coordinate a collective organized resistance.”

“Our way of life is strongly matriarchal. Men hold the leadership positions but it is the women that guide them, we are doing the administrative/paper work and are meeting to talk about the different direct actions we can take because we know we are not gonna win this in the courts, city hall, or state capitol. There is a lot of money involved in the sale of alcohol and these developments. We are in touch with some women’s biker groups that are working with us to defend Bear Butte and will not ride to Sturgis, this will have an impact on the bars out there. The Treaty Council and warriors’ societies, and all segments of our population are participating.

Lakota Nation infrastructure is traditionally built on the Tiospaye (relatives living together/extended family). Each Tiospaye has their Itancan and Nacas (leader and advisors), healers, matriarchs, men’s and women’s societies. Our Tiospaye helped found our coalition and pulled all the Tiospaye leaders together to make a collective stand with the leaders of the Treaty Council comprising the nine Sioux bands and the other nations with a unanimous participation to form the Summit of Indigenous Nations.

We are organizing around the defense of human rights, (in part through the UN in NY and Geneva) our human right to pray, and this includes indigenous people around the world. For education and outreach, we are making (through the Lakota Media Project) two documentaries one on the indigenous peoples’ human right to pray and one on Bear Butte. We invite all our allies from the South to be at our summit to create this collective resistance. We are in touch with indigenous people from the South and we hope to enter into a treaty of peace and friendship with them during our Summit of Nations. Owe Aku (Bring Back the Way) will work to register these treaties at the UN. Our traditional way of life pre-dates Columbus. We were able to live and thrive on our way of life. The UN is set up for the colonizers of the world and serves to protect their interests, it does not accommodate our traditional structure, but we are slowly changing it, and can still use it to link up with other indigenous peoples. In our Summit of Nations we will talk about the kinds of direct action we will be taken, what will this organized resistance look like, what it will be, its goals, and its methods. If we don’t do this we will just continue as small isolated pockets of resistance and will not be effective.

We have talked about the possible military response from the US to our organizing our Summit. During the Sturgis bike rally they have 10 million people come to this region. The crime rate goes up. There aren’t enough port-a-potties and they literally have urine running in the ditches. They rather have that than Indians praying at Bear Butte. Our elders tell us that our strongest weapon is the love for your way of life and our prayers. When we have our Summit of Nations the Oglala Lakota will be lead by the pipe of Chief Red Cloud that his family has had since the Wounded Knee massacre, the people are coming with their spiritual power. We pray for guidance and direction. This is our last defense. If they wipe out our sacred places, they wipe out our way of life. We will not be Lakota anymore. I talked to our youth in gangs and asked them to put down their gang colors and be Lakota for one day and they did, they marched with us for Bear Butte and put that gang identity aside. We were real comforted by that gesture, that our young people could put that away and stand up as Lakotas because without these places we lose our identity. The churches were sent in to christianize our ancestors away from their identity so it is good that they now organize in support of our traditional ways.

We’re inviting people of all colors and walks of life. Some environmental groups and religious groups will form a buffer zone around us as allies, and they are respectful of our ceremonies that are for indigenous people only. We are expecting many people and we need resources to accommodate them. The tribes are donating whatever they can, one tribe is giving us 10 buffalo, another one 20 elk. Please bring everything you will need and something to share. If you are able to make a donation you can do it through our websites, where you can also find directions to the campgrounds and contact information. http://www.bringbacktheway.com/ http://www.defendbearbutte.org/ “

Contacts:
Carter Camp(605) 867-1941mailto:867-1941cartercamp@yahoo.com
Vic Camp(605) 867-1941mailto:867-1941victoriocamp1@yahoo.com
Debra White Plume(605) 455-2155lakota1@gwtc.net

Contactos:

Carter Camp
(605) 867-1941
cartercamp@yahoo.com

Vic Camp
(605) 867-1941
victoriocamp1@yahoo.com

Debra White Plume
(605) 455-2155
lakota1@gwtc.net

The Tashunka Witko Brigade (TWB) focuses on indigenous liberation and gives voice to the indigenous people, the elders, grandmas and warriors on the ground in this our continent. Even though the numbers differ we have received word that among the many atrocities are at least 2 dead children and possibly up to 9 teachers who were killed, many were wounded and dozens arrested (some taken in unmarked cars to unknown places = disappeared). The free radio (Radio Planton) there was key announcing when the government forces were rolling in and the police broke in and destroyed the equipment. Many teachers have returned to the place where they have been demonstrating and the police is regrouping. Subcomandante Marcos is URGENTLY asking all the Zapatista supporters to condemn this new act of repression by the State in statements and actions. The message below (in Spanish) has a detailed account of what happened. Here are the e-mail addresses of the gov officials that should be contacted in protest:

Governor of the State of Oaxaca.: gobernador@oaxaca.gob.mx

Jorge Franco Vargas: Secretary of Government of the State of Oaxaca: Tel. This is an interview of Thahoketoteh of the Bear Clan, Mohawk Nation of Grand River, who is a member of the Mohawk Nation News.

Thahoketoteh shares his thoughts, and reviews the history and updates of the conflict over the Canadian Government encroachment into Six Nations territory.

Since this interview was carried out several significant things have happened. Prime Minister Harper allegedly said something to the effect that either the protesters will kill the indigenous people in Caledonia or the indigenous people will kill the protesters, the Caledonia mayor has been asking for the army to be brought in, two altercations occurred on June 9th, 2006, within Six Nations territory: one orchestrated to capture Native people on camera while reacting to racist attacks, and another when Native security caught a US Border Patrol vehicle – way out of its jurisdiction- that was taking pictures of everything and everybody, the vehicle was confiscated and investigated. Evidence of collaboration between OPP, US Border Patrol and US-ATF was recovered as well as the names of all OPP officers and U.S. agents who have been involved in the Six Nations conflict, their home phone numbers, and many details of their surveillance operations. Also seen was information from confidential informants dating back to the beginning of the standoff. The intelligence officer's log includes details of an OPP operation post being set up in the Hamilton area, a list of checks into the background of natives and Caledonia residents, information from the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS) that "white supremacist skinheads" were being brought into Caledonia as paid provocateurs. Canadian authorities want to bring charges against the indigenous warriors that carried out their security duty during these incidents.

Also, as stated in a June 13th, 2006 statement by Chief Terrance Nelson of the Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation: “As Premier Dalton McGuinty and Minister of Indian Affairs Jim Prentice pull out of the Six Nations/Caledonia land claim with ultimatums that the “barricades must come down,” First Nations across Canada are issuing their own ultimatums. Last week, 100 Ontario Chiefs walked to the site of the land claim dispute and issued their own warning to Canada. Today Union of British Columbia Chiefs issued full support to Six Nations. In Manitoba, the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, representing 64 First Nations, passed a resolution supporting a 24-hour railway blockade set for June 29th 2006, “to force the Canadian government to establish a reasonable time-frame for settlement of land claims.” Roseau River Anishinabe First Nation will block two railway lines going into the United States. At least six other Manitoba First Nations have vowed to block railway lines at the same time.”

To listen to this interview go to http://radio.indymedia.org/news/2006/06/10199.php

For more information go to http://intercontinentalcry.mahost.org/unitytalk/p209-Today.html#p209
Or contact: Thahoketoteh at thahoketoteh@mohawknationnews.com, Hazel Hill at thebasketcase@on.aibn.com ; or Jacqueline House at Jacqueline_house@hotmail.com

The Tashunka Witko Brigade (TWB) focuses on indigenous liberation and gives voice to the indigenous people, the elders, grandmas and warriors on the ground in this our continent. ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE ATTACKS SIX NATIONS’ CLAN MOTHERS AND SUPPORTERS DEFENDING THEIR LAND

4-20-2006

Ta Shunka Witko Brigade Radio Interview (10 min. 3 sec. includes English original with Spanish translation)

Hazel Hill, of the Wolf Clan of the Mohawk of the Great River Nation tells TWB her first hand account of today’s confrontation with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). The OPP launched a raid around 4:30 a.m. EDT this morning to force out Six Nations Clan Mothers, their families, and supporters from continuing to watch over their land to prevent illegal construction by Henco Industries Limited, a US firm.

The police descended on approximately 200 peaceful, unarmed defenders of the land with several large rental vans, their guns drawn, and armed with tear gas and Tasers. Women were roughed up, elders shoved and handcuffed. Nonetheless the people refused to leave and supporters poured in. The women lead a march that forced the police to retreat until they were outside Mohawk land and in the city of Caledonia. Then they erected barricades that kept police vehicles out of their territory. They are asking for continued support and international mediation.

The land that Six Nations people and supporters are being forced to protect from illegal encroachment is on part of the Haldimand tract that was deeded to the Six Nations in 1784 and was never transferred to third parties. Canada has no legal right to dispose of it. The Women Title Holders (Rotinshon’non:we) demand the cessation of the use of force and that Canada act in an honorable way by treating this issue as a Nation to Nation conflict to be resolved in the traditional Rotinshon’non:we process as set out in the Kaianereh’ko:wa.

To listen to this interview go to http://radio.indymedia.org/news/2006/04/9427.php

For more information go to http://intercontinentalcry.mahost.org/unitytalk/p209-Today.html#p209

Or contact: Dick Hill 519-865-7722, 519-445-1351; Hazel 519-717-4292, 519-445-0719; Jacqueline House 905-765-9316;
thebasketcase@on.aibn.com; Jacqueline_house@hotmail.com.

Send or phone messages to stop this attack on the Six Nations people: Premier of Ontario, PHONE: (416) 325-1941, FAX: (416) 325-3745, email: mailto:dalton.mcguinty@premier.gov.on.ca (cc: mkwinter.mpp@liberal.ola.org)ONTARIO RCMP, Headquarters, 130 Dufferin Ave, PO Box 3240 Station B, London, ON N6A 4K3, Telephone: 519-640-7267
Hamilton/Niagara Reg Det, STN Main BOX 487,Hamilton L8N 3H8 (905)572-2401
Kingston Det 1000 Gardiners RD 3RD FLR Kingston K7P 3C4, (613)384-7201
Kitchener Det 17 Executive Place Kitchener N2P 2V3, (519) 896-3542
London Det 451 Talbot ST 8TH FLR London N6A 5C9, (519) 645-4329
Sault Ste Marie Det 22 Bay ST Sault Ste Marie P6A 5S2, (705) 941-7267
Sudbury Det 1310 Sparks ST Sudbury P3A 2C8, (705) 671-0645
Thunder Bay Det 21 Archibald ST N Thunder Bay, P7C 3Y3, (807)623-2791
Toronto East Det 415 Baseline RD W BOX 1500 Bowmanville L1C 4V7, (905)697-6000
Toronto West Det 2755 Highpoint Drive Milton L9T 5E8, (905) 876-9500
Toronto Lester B Pearson Airport Det 255 Atwell DR Etobicoke M9W 7G2, (905) 405-3750
Toronto North Det 345 Harry Walker PKY S Â Â Newmarket L3Y 8P6 (905) 953-7267
Windsor Det 6080 Riverside DR E Windsor N8S 1B6 (519) 948-5287
Henco Industries Ltd., 128 Highland Blvd. Caledonia Ontario.

She has been disenrolled, (resulting in her loss of employment, health insurance, educational allowances, quarterly stipends and all other Oneida Nation services), kidnapped, imprisoned, her home demolished (she lost all her belongings due to this), and her children taken away, for standing up for her community. She tells the Tashunka Witko Brigade a first hand account of what is happening in her Nation under siege.

For the last 14 years the Oneidas have been enduring a federally imposed dictatorship put in place to facilitate a secret gaming compact set up by former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, Rep. Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY), and the Oneida traitor and federally appointed puppet for life Arthur Raymond Halbritter. Halbritter has disregarded all traditional Oneida laws/government, signed a tax agreement with the US government, established a non-native paramilitary force, closed down the long house (place of worship and formal community gatherings), disenrolled and punished traditional Oneida people who have dared to stand up to his abuses. The Oneidas have the largest lands claim case in the United States, their lands are very rich in resources and the US government wants to relocate them again. Halbritter has started to use the Oneida’s land claim as a gambling chip for more gaming.

To listen to this interview click on (or copy and paste on your browser’s window) http://radio.indymedia.org/news/2006/04/9310.php

In spite of all her losses (she regained her children but remains homeless), Danielle continues her work for her people and all indigenous peoples. She stands up for native populations rights to land, water, wellness in youth, traditional practice and language, native education, indigenous seed/plant preservation, native arts, and native medicine. She will be presenting the Oneida case at the United Nations Permanent Forum for Indigenous Issues in May and would appreciate sponsors. She does not receive any monies from government, corporate or tribal entities, but uses the earnings from selling her beadwork or speaking engagements. Oneidas for Democracy could use financial assistance for legal and travel costs (money orders only please). It is violent, it represents violence in its ugliest form. It is a separation, an isolation, a canonization of a racist policy…Not only does it run down to the ocean but it will extend 500 feet out into the water so that even the dolphin people cannot get back and forth as they cruise up and down the beach… There are 24-7 helicopters in the air doing surveillance. The wall runs down to the beach and along the highway on the Tijuana side. There is actually 3 walls… In between the third and first wall there’s a couple of miles of “buffer” space considered “no man’s land” and that’s where the patrols are, where the colonial military and border agents sit… it is a DMZ, not a border… we do not have a border there, we have a DMZ with military sensors, military machinery and implements, a war zone…” We open this essay with a prayer in Mayo language by our compa Raul Buitimea and music by Quetzalcoatl, the closing song is “Maldicion de Malinche” by Amparo Ochoa.

To listen to this program go to http://radio.indymedia.org/news/2006/02/8564.php

The Tashunka Witko Brigade (TWB) focuses on indigenous liberation and gives voice to the indigenous people, the elders, grandmas and warriors on the ground in this our continent. This run is part of the efforts to fulfill the prophecy of the condor and the eagle to unite all indigenous peoples.Featuring: Interview of “Greñas” Raul Buitimea by DJ Tanya, Tashunka Witko Brigade.“Greñas” Raul Buitimea, of the Mayo Nation, is one of the coordinators of the Ceremonial Run for Indigenous Dignity in Baja California, Mexico. In this interview he invites all indigenous people from North and South to participate in this run and tells us details about the run, its history and objectives. This run is part of the efforts to fulfill the prophecy of the condor and the eagle and unite all indigenous nations. It will open with traditional nahua ceremonies on February 24th, in honor of the birth and death day of Cuauhtemoc, the great Aztec warrior. The run itself leaves from Tijuana on February 26th, passes through 17 indigenous communities, several traditional ceremonial centers, and will last 2 weeks. Many of the indigenous communities in what today is known as Baja California are extremely isolated and marginalized, and some are at the brink of completely losing their language and integrity as nations. Some of the objectives of this run are to find out, record and make public the conditions in which these communities live and any demands they may have. The group will travel with a radio that will be installed in the communities ahead of the runners, this radio will transmit indigenous programming including: reports on the struggle of other indigenous peoples throughout the continent, ceremonies, stories, literature, medicine, and history of indigenous peoples, as well as environmental, children’s and women’s rights programs. This interview ends with Greñas’ account of his people’s history and current situation.

To listen to this program go to http://radio.indymedia.org/news/2006/02/8392.php

Some specific areas of the run in need of support:
• Promotion of event.
• Sound system for the February 25th event.
• Food for the people attending the February 25th event.
• Transportation for runners and dancers from Sonora to Tijuana.
• Cars and gas to transport medicine, blankets, backpacks for the run.
• Radio transmission equipment and walky-talkies.

For more information visit http://carreraindigena.blogspot.com,/ write to ojbo@riseup.com (Español), flaqise@hotmail.com (English), or call 011-52-664-622-4269 (from the US), 664-622-4269 (within Mexico) to leave a message.

This move was brought on by the alliance between the government and the maquila (sweat shops) owners in order to deter him from carrying out his human rights work on behalf of the mostly indigenous maquila workers. His recent release came about after intense national and international pressure. However, there is still reason to believe his safety and that of his family might be at risk. Listen to the interview for details on his case (and the similar case of journalist Lydia Cacho), working conditions of the maquila workers in Puebla, Martin’s and the Commission’s work on their behalf, and their wish for the US consumers to pressure the corporations to respect workers’ rights and the environment. The manufacture of your jeans by The Gap, The Limited, Abercrombie, Levi’s and many other clothing corporations is done by indigenous hands that endure dismal working conditions, sexual harassment, low wages, and no independent union representation. These corporations also have total disregard for the environment, the process to make jeans contaminates the waters of the Tehuacan Valley. Please do your part to affect change.
To listen to this program go to http://www.radio4all.net/proginfo.php?id=16298

APPEAL BY THE HUMAN AND LABOR RIGHTS COMMISSION OF TEHUACAN VALLEY (details from Ben Cockelet, at http://www.jaguaresmx.com/)

In the Martin Barrios Hernandez case please send appeals to the authorities listed below as quickly as possible:
- calling on the authorities to take steps to guarantee the safety of Martin Barrios Hernandez and other members of the Human and Labor Rights Commission of Tehuacán Valley, according to their wishes, following his release on 12 January;
- calling on the authorities to carry out an independent and impartial investigation into his prosecution and the alleged fabrication of charges against him, and for the results to be made public;
- reminding the authorities that the UN Declaration on the Rights and Responsibility of Individuals, Groups and Organs of Society to Promote and Protect Universally Recognized Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms recognizes the legitimacy of the activities of human rights defenders, and their right to carry out their activities without any restrictions or fear of reprisals.
APPEALS TO:
State Governor of Puebla:Lic.

Lic. Since then she has researched and written extensively on social policy and gender equality issues and the women's movement in Northern Ireland. She has a strong interest in women's history, and is a founding member of the Mary Ann McCracken Historical Society and author of When History Was Made: The Women of 1916. She works tirelessly to make community-based peacebuilding in Ireland a reality and to ensure economic disadvantage, social exclusion and marginalization of the Irish people are addressed as part of the peace process. In this interview, Ruth talks with co-host Wanbli Watakpe about many issues parallel to both the Irish and Indigenous struggles for self-determination: protection of sacred sites (the ancient site of the Hill of Tara and Skryne Valley at the very center of Ireland, and sacred Bear Butte in South Dakota are both threatened by urban development), environmental oppression (Shell Oil’s plan to build a high pressure gas line through the Rossport community in Ireland), threats to traditional culture, and informers in the movements. In addition, she gives a unique look at Leonard Peltier’s struggle for freedom by talking about the rarely mentioned year he spent behind bars in Canada prior to his extradition, and how that struggle ignited the Native movement in Canada and raised many people’s consciousness. She ends by recalling Bobby Sands, the hunger strike that ended his life and the life of nine other heroes of the Irish struggle, and how that sacrifice laid the groundwork for the current peace process.

To listen to this show click on the following link: http://radio.indymedia.org/news/2006/01/8223.php

For more information on the movement to protect the ancient site of the Hill of Tara and Skryne Valley visit http://www.sacredireland.org/ .

To find out about the Shell Oil high pressure pipeline through Rossport and the five men imprisoned for fighting it visit http://www.freetherossportfive.com/

For more information on the Gathering of Nations to Defend Bear Butte or the Inter-Tribal Coalition to Defend Bear Butte visit http://www.bringbacktheway.com/ or contact: Carter Camp at cartercamp@yahoo.com, Debra White Plume at 605-455-2155, or Vic Camp at 605-455-1122.
The Tashunka Witko Brigade (TWB) focuses on indigenous liberation and gives voice to the indigenous people, the elders, grandmas and warriors on the ground in this our continent.
